Sukanya Ray (b. 1995, Texas) is interested in life’s in-betweens.
As a frequently relocating child of immigrants raised primarily in the evangelical South, Ray has always been fascinated by the liminal quality of one’s identity. Her practice is one of observation and curiosity, documenting humanity within sparse everyday scenes.
Preferring the purity of monochromatic imagery, Ray explores themes of divinity and eternal recurrence that are often articulated via light and the constructed space. Her preferred approach to her practice is to photograph as life unfolds. She uses one film camera and one digital camera.
Ray is based between Boston and New York City. She holds a BFA in Design from Northeastern University (2019).
